The Country Preacher

The Country Preacher has always been the revered respected,

Man of God in the community. His honesty, trustworthiness,

And dependability was unquestioned.  

His spiritual service has always been needed and appreciated. 

He never asks for anything except to preach Christ and His crucifixion. 

His down to earth messages contained the fire of Hell,

But were seasoned with the love of God. 

Usually he blundered the King’s English,

Yet no one ever misunderstood the message proclaimed. 

Folks were saved, backsliders revived,

And the saints of God were lifted up to a higher spiritual level

When the gospel of power was preached. 

Some came on foot, and others rode in wagons or cars.

But they did come to hear about the grace of God.

How many will one day testify before the Judgment Seat of Christ

About the Country Preacher who would not let their souls go.

How he continued to preach, witness,

And to pray for them until the light of heaven filled their souls?

What a rich godly heritage we have to draw from

As we pass on to others the things of Christ.  

Thank God for the Country Preacher of the past and present.
